Lexapro indications

The antidepressant escitalopram with the property of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system is indicated for the treatment of acute forms of major depressive disorder in adult patients and in adolescents (12-17 years of age).mdd
A psychotic disorder known as major depressive disorder is characterized by continuous (2 weeks) sad or dismal mood. A person with MDD usually is unable to perform daily activities. The common symptoms of MDD are:
•    oppressive mood;
•    loss of interest in any activities;
•    weight loss or weight gain;
•    loss of appetite;
•    problems with sleep or sleeping too much;
•    agitation or slow movements;
•    fatigue;
•    slowed reaction,  trouble concentration;
•    thoughts or attempts of suicide.
Lexapro is also indicated to manage acute forms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in adult patients only.
A patient with GAD is extremely anxious and worried during a period of time usually at least 6 months. The feelings of anxiety and fears are hard to manage.
The usual symptoms of GAD are:
•    restlessness;
•    agitation;
•    fatigue;
•    trouble concentrating;
•    easily irritated;
•    tension of the muscles;
•    insomnia.
Lexapro should be used to treat MDD and GAD only with a doctor’s prescription and supervision.
